Teubert and Chorney Called Up, Omark Out 6 weeks
Shortly before the start of last nights game, Andy Sutton was forced out of the lineup with a sore groin. Earlier on the in the day, the Oilers announced that Cam Barker will be gone approximately 3 months due to ankle Surgery.
With Ryan Whitney already out of the lineup with an injured right knee, the Oilers had no choice but to call up a pair of defencemen in Taylor Chorney and Colton Teubert.
For Chorney, you have to think this will be his last chance with this club. They already put him on waivers ealier this year (when St. Louis claimed him only to put him back on waivers), and if he doesn't show something here it's unlikely he's back again next year unless it's an AHL only deal.
Teubert has already seen action with the Oilers this year, stepping in and playing well for an injured Cam Barker (2GP 0G 1A 4SCF-3SCA).
Omark Out 6 Weeks with a Broken Ankle
Swedish Hockey site Hockey Expressen was told by Omark's agent that he has suffered a broken ankle and will be out for approximately 6 weeks (Google Translated).
This is a big blow to Omark. With the Oilers in the midst of a losing streak and continuing to struggle offensively, Omark was a potential candidate to be called up.
It doesn't look like the injury bug that has plagued the Oilers since the 2005-06 season plans on letting up anytime soon.

Chin up bud – you weren’t going to see him Buffalo anyway.

I really hope that Potter is able to play again immediately; then Teubert can make a straight switch with Peckham.
By the way, did Chorney actually see the ice when with the Blues or was he just a perpetual pressbox backup?
He saw the ice twice earlier this month. 12:15 one night and 11:05 the next. Spent most of the time in the pressbox eating popcorn.

If anyone does and they’ve been holding out I will kill them.

Look at the Winchester goal from last night. Peckham had a box of popcorn in his stick hand.

I’d love to know what’s happened to him. Was he really this bad last year and his gaffes were being covered up by Gilbert? Or has he just forgotten how to play hockey?

He’s always been a big risk/reward type. Makes big plays but has always been prone to occasional gaffes. Lately the big plays are less noticeable but still occasional, but the gaffes are frequent, and really bad. I gave him a natural hat trick of primary errors in the Ottawa game, and my first “1 out of 10” rating of the season. He was flat out awful in this one, even worse than the terrible standard of play he’s exhibited to this point. Going south in a hurry (tho’ not soon enough!"

Unless Renney flips Petry to the left side and puts Teubert on the second pairing, Peckham is going to be on the second pairing tonight.

This may actually be, in a backhanded sort of way, a good thing for Mr. Omark’s career. For the first time since he got to Edmonton, nobody’s going to be expecting anything of him for the next little while, and we can perhaps all settle down a bit and wait to see what he’s got to offer when he comes back.
