$1000 Donated to MADD In Khabibulin's Name

Last night Nikolai Khabibulin was recognized as the winner of the Molson Cup for October. As part of the award a $1000 donation was made in his name to Mothers Against Drunk Driving. That's 0.0285% of his salary. For some strange reason I find that a little funny.

Perhaps if Stoli sponsored the December cup…

You guys.

Standard for players to pass on award money they receive to a chosen charity. Often it is even worded that way – “donated to a charity of the player’s choosing”.

Khabibulin chose MADD, an excellent charity for many reasons and one with particular application to his situation. A good choice.

And now you are comparing Molson Cup money as a percentage of his salary? Come on.

If mad would confine its activities to public education, I would be all for them. But their lobbying activities are, in my opinion, damaging.

(This is not to say that public education to the exclusion of political lobbying is all that should be done to fight drinking and driving, just that MADD’s own advocacy approach is damaging.)

Thanks, you’re more informed on the issue than I. I’ll keep an eye open for that.

Your first instinct wasn’t to laugh at the irony of Khabibulin winning the Molson Cup?

True, that is funny. I wonder whether MADD will accept such tainted cash.

Good use of the word “irony”. 1% of the time, people actually get it right.
