I don’t have any issues with that decision.

Sutton’s statement about the suspension:
“I have been informed of and understand the League’s decision, however, I had no intention of delivering an illegal check. For 14 years, I’ve always played the game with respect and integrity and I will continue to do so when I return.”

I just can’t believe it took four days to render that decision.

Shanahan has a whole bunch of his own decisions to cross-reference and make sure he’s not contradicting himself. Takes time.

My assumption is that they had to collectively contort this thing so the Wolski thing made a lick of fucking sense. Still doesn’t.

it was a complicated decision. Sutton was just standing up at the blue line, which is a basic part of a defenseman’s job, and Landeskog was daydreaming skating towards the blue line. You’re in the NHL buddy. You are going to be hit there. Pay offing attention.
There was no elbow, but Sutton missed his hit, which resulted in shoulder to head contact.
Sutton also had a history.
So Shanahan had a bunch of factors that he had to weigh carefully. You have to allow defenders to stand up forwards at the blue line, but Sutton was a repeat offender. He didn’t lead with his elbow, but he missed his target, resulting in a headshot instead of a body shot.
