Around SBN: NFL Owners Vote to Change Trade Deadline

Filling a Linus Omark-shaped hole in the All-Star lineup will be Colin McDonald of the Oklahoma CIty Barons. McDonald is having the best season of his professional career with 23 goals, nearly double his career high . He replaces Omark in the All-Star lineup who is now settled in with the Oilers. The All-Star festivities will take place January 30-31 in Hershey, PA.

Just got a chuckle at the expense of my own FanShot. Should have said AHL All Star Roster. I’m sure an Oiler fan somewhere just spit his coffee on his laptop thinking Colin McDonald was replacing Hemsky or Eberle at the NHL All Star game. Cheers.

Haha! Don’t worry Neal we knew what you meant! McDonald is having a hell of a season though, good on the guy – I’ve always rooted for him, seems to be a coaches dream in that he does whatever is asked of him. Very versatile, very useful, very much would be better than JFJ on the Oilers fourth line. You think he’ll stay in the organisation next year Neal? Kinda depends whether this is just a freak season, although he’s never been a total slouch offensively. His linemates have helped no doubt, but I suspect the talent was always there.

Interesting thoughts. His value certainly has gone up, but it may take another year to further cement his status as a goal scoring machine. That first line of Giroux-Moran-McDonald has been lights out. With the addition of Helmer (who has shown to be a scoring defenseman), on the power play, this unit will only get better. Would he have the same totals without those two? Hard to speculate, but I certainly think it’s changed his game for the better.

I think it will be difficult for the Oilers to keep him unless they’re prepared to give him a two-way contract (as opposed to his current AHL only contract). They may be ready to do that, but with so many prospects ready to graduate to pro hockey, some tough decisions will need to be made on who’s getting a contract.

Abney, Abney, oh why TF did we have to pick Abney?

If JFJ get’s a new NHL-contract from the Oil, it can happend also to Old McDo.
