Predators Sign Aaron Johnson
Nashville inked Johnson to a one-year two-way contract that will pay him $550,000 in the NHL and $105,000 in the AHL. Interestingly, it's the exact same deal that the Oilers have with Richard Petiot. Perhaps the club wasn't too impressed with Johnson, or maybe Johnson was hoping for a one-way deal when the Oilers were signing guys for the AHL club. One other possible consideration in choosing Petiot over Johnson is the AHL veteran rule, which states that teams can only dress six veteran skaters in any one game. Johnson qualifies as a "veteran" under the rule, while Petiot does not. The Barons who do qualify as "veterans" are Shawn Belle, Ben Ondrus, Alexandre Giroux, Jake Taylor, and Brad Moran.
