Edmonton Oiler Prospects Top 25 Under 25 Rankings

Our top 25 under 25 is done for a second time.  When we last did this in February, we only agreed on one thing - Sam Gagner, the number one ranked player.  This time, we only agreed on one thing - Taylor Hall, the number one ranked player.  Though the Oilers have been selling hope for what seems like two decades now, there is now a reason for hope.  There is real talent in the under 25 group in this organization and with new people in charge of development and a real commitment to the AHL, there's a chance that we won't be writing articles about wasted talent and wasted opportunity for the next five years.

Quibbles, not major, just a few

Good list Men

Some thoughts:
- I’d say its too early to have Pitlick as high as 6th
- I’m glad to see Cogliano ahead of Brule. Now that Moreau is gone, I’d be surprised if Cogliano doesn’t outscore 67.
- Lander & Petry would be a couple of rungs higher on my list. Peckham too.
- If Davidson is actually behind Reddox, you gotta think Slim just left his town.

Good job guys.

Derek’s raging Pitlick boner padded his ranking.

Yeah, if Pitlick was really 6’3 Derek would have ranked him #0.

If Pitlick were 6’3" he’d have a restraining order out.

Bruce appears to be the glue that holds us all together, even as our leader’s irresponsible choices threaten to drive us apart ;)

The enormous differences, except for Motin, are NCAA players. You hate them. I don’t.

I think Bruce has good advice for you Ben; I’m assuming it’s based on the fact that improbably you ranked Zack Stortini four spots higher than Bruce.

Ben’s rankings were all over the place, especially compared to his February rankings.

I changed my approach on how I think of prospects between then and now. If I did actually run for office, this would make me a disgraceful flip-flopper.

Awesome site guys! I just found it, read your rankings, and wanted to post something about Lander. However, before posting I went and looked at some of your earlier articles, and found I was actually in one of them!
Oilers Summer Camp, Day Three: Belles & Whistles – I am the guy from regina who came to both Tool shows, and also was fotrunate enough to catch the last 2 days of summer camp, standing behind bluebelle at the merch stand. I also had reservations about wearing Tool gear that morning….funny thing to find over a morning coffee

I have to say, that 2 day stretch was an absolute thrill for me. I lived in Edmonton in the late 90’s, came back for the 2006 playoff run, and it was so nice to be in a buzzing hockey city again. Both days at the camp were spent talking to total (equally oil obsessed) strangers, and actually I asked one of the guys taking pictures if he could email me some of his better shots and after some friendly email correspondence this gentleman, who is apparently a season ticket holder, has invited me to a game or two this year. I love Oiler fans.

While I didn’t manage to catch MSP, Eberle or Hall for an autograph on the last day, I did get Lander to sign my Sweden jersey, which leads to me to my actual reason for signing up to C&B.
I love this top 25 list, but I would definitely lower Pitlick and have Lander at 6. I’m a huge Pitlick fan(poor mans richards), but in Lander I think we have a future top 3rd line C in the league, with ability to fill in the top 6. He a puck possession guy who thrives without the puck as well, which is the type of player this team will need with our high end talent stacking up like it is. Even more important to me is this kids character though.
I think with a strong European presence coming up on our squad having a strong character guy who leads with his play on the ice will be extremely valuable to keeping this young core together and in check. Between him and Eberle, I see maturity beyond their years, and I really like the fact MSP and Lander are already very good friends.
I think all these factors will lead to our core wanting to stay here long term, and as an Edmonton fan that’s music to my ears.
Again, love the site and will be back regularily!

Hail and well met, Ryan! Must have been unexpected to find yourself already featured in an article. :) I remember our meeting and discussion about Tool over the merch table.

As for Lander, I’m real high on the kid even though my ranking of him is middling. I’m very impressed with his character and commitment, and you’re right that his skill set would fill a gaping need on this squad. Whether he has the physical talent is the question … I’m not in the least concerned about the intangibles.

As for “music to your ears”, here’s an old story with a familiar song reference about a time when the team chemistry was a little lacking,
