Joffrey Lupul's Failures vs. A Gratuitous Bikini Shot - An Oiler Fan's Dilemma

EDMONTON, CANADA - JANUARY 20: Byron Ritchie #15 of the Calgary Flames moves for the puck againstJoffrey Lupul #15 of the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place on January 20, 2007 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. (Photo by Dale MacMillan/Getty Images)

Anaheim Calling writer Jen does not like Joffrey Lupul. Jen's writing has caught Lupul's attention a few times, and he's responded to her on his Twitter account (a must-follow account, if only for the jaw-dropping things Lupul manages to type), so she knows her work is on his radar.  And now, she's thrown down the gauntlet - if Lupul scores 35 goals for the Ducks this season, she's turning Anaheim Calling into a bikini shot site. Here's the problem for Oiler fans: we all know Lupul is a coasting, lolly-gagging, corner-avoiding, contact-dodging mook. Rooting for him would be nauseating.

Star-divide

However, there is also something to be said for bikini shots, especially since the most famous one involving the Oilers is of Rob Schremp and many of us are still in therapy.

Below is Jen's audition episode when she was trying out for Ducks TV:

You have the evidence in front of you.  We want to know - could you stomach a wildly successful season from Lupul if you get bikini shots as a result?  Is this a case of irresistible force versus immovable object?  Do your memories of Joffrey Lupul treating hockey like it was a game of hide-and-seek mean that you can never root for him?  Answer the tough questions, people.  If it were a fight, I'd bet on Jen to win.  Rooting for Lupul?  I'm pretty sure that even offers of money wouldn't get Edmonton fans to root for Lupul.

Poll
Will you root for Lupul to score 35 goals?
Holy moses no. Lupul is awful and rooting for him would make me ill.

While researching another story the other day, I came across this 2006 reference of Kevin Lowe discussing “Joff Lupul”:

Well, we like to think that the ‘80s Oilers have brought on a whole other generation of players, as well, like [Anaheim’s] Joff Lupul in the last series, and Ray Whitney …"

I guess Brian Burke knew right then and there who’d be a good bargaining chip to offer the Oilers in case something good came along …

Micro Stats? Not?

If Jen does the bikini thing,

Can we look forward to a detailed statistical analysis here at the C&B?

Purely academic, of course

Things I learned today:

1) I think we need Lupul to score 35.
2) I’m pretty sure that the Ducks PA guy is also the PA guy for the NHL 2K series.

Haha! Thanks for the love, guys :) Glad to know I have the support of many friends up north! One thing I find extremely funny is that the NHL store carries an Oilers bikini. Why is that funny? Because they don’t carry a Ducks bikini – a team that has a beach about 10 minutes away.

I’m feeling pretty confident that my buddy Loops will not hit the 35 goal plateau. If the rumors are true, he won’t be back until December, at the earliest.

Doogie – I know Phil does the voice for MLB 2K series. It wouldn’t surprise me if he does the NHL 2K games too.

And finally, thanks again for taking Ryan Whitney!

Oh yeah, it’s gotta be him, then. Same voice, same phrases, then they just splice in different team names and shit. So you get the Ducks guy saying, “Alright fans, it’s time to get loud for your…EDMONTON OILERS!” That’s now even weirder to me than it already was.

Meh, you can get bikini shots anytime, anywhere on the Internet. She’d have to sweeten the offer quite a bit.

I can’t access Twitter where I’m at, but I Googled "twitter joffrey lupul" and the second site that came up (after Lupul’s Twitter account, of course) was a blog article titled: "Twitter killed Joffrey Lupul’s sex appeal." I didn’t realize Lupul’s sex appeal was so legendary to start with, but it appears his train wreck Twittering has at least canceled it out. I’ll have to check it out when I have the chance!

I’ve been on Lupul’s Twitter feed for awhile. Guy’s a freaking airhead. I guess it’s funny sometimes, but probably not in the way the twit intended.

When will the Copper & Blue writers put their pledges up?

Look, we all know Lupul won’t be putting up 35 goals this year, so this discussion is rather academic. However, I admire Jen’s commitment to put herself out there for the team, and for her blog’s readers.

So, what I really want to know is what will the Copper & Blue writers pledge for compatible Oiler milestones this season. No, I don’t want to see any of them in bikinis (please, no!), but I’m sure their creativity will come up with something. Surely, the following hypothetical milestones must be worth something to warrant a pledge?
- Taylor Hall scores 35 goals
- Dustin Penner scores 35 goals
- Hemsky puts up 90 points
- Oilers finish higher than 10th
- Or, make up your own…

by oilerBC on Aug 22, 2010 11:05 PM MDT reply actions

Really? I think it’d be great if the C&B writers pledged to wear bikinis for an Oilers’ accomplishment. It’d have to be for something unfathomable, though, such as the Oilers making the playoffs.

Amazing

A girlf from Anaheim offers to take a picture in a bikini if some guy who’s out half the year scores 35 goals…story of a lifetime.

I offer to post a youtube video of myself drinking a coke if Penner scores 90 goals this year. Where’s my feature article?

Hardly the story of a lifetime, just a fun post for an August Sunday. Crissakes, you expect 100% content 100% of the time? Gotta have a little fun while we’re at it.

Holy moses, the lead in the poll has actually changed. The Bikini Brigade was up by about 10 votes for much of yesterday, but now the Hate Lupul faction has assumed the upper hand. People must really detest Joffrey Palindrome.

PS: I voted anti-Lupul. No offence intended, Jen … at least not to you.

Hmmmm

As someone said, bikini pics are common. She’d really have to sweeten the deal. Interracial midget DP, something envelop pushing, something extreme. Bikinis? Please. It’s 2010. Get with the times. If it doesn’t involve gangbangs, grannies or trannies I’m not watching.

Sir

Matt.N, I don’t think my vocabulary contains the proper words to describe just how much I support your proposition!

by verduci on Aug 23, 2010 11:24 AM MDT up reply actions

I should probably explain how this came about before we start talking midgets…

I was arguing with some of our die-hard Lupul fans about how, even at his best, dear Joff could NOT score 35 because of his dedication to the Newport Beach bar scene over the ice. They kept throwing all their arguments at me as to why I was wrong, and frankly, I was sick of hearing about it. I am so sure of my prediction that I posted the bikini bet knowing that I would never have to follow through with it. The goal counter was all the boys’ idea :)

I’m with a lot of people on here. I have a hard time rooting for the guy, even if he is on my favorite team. The Ducks need him to be a big time goal scorer next season to counterbalance our completely revamped – and incomplete – D. Yet, I don’t think he’s going to live up to the hype. So, as the gangstas say, I ain’t scurrred.

Jen also offered the bikini shot before Lupul announced he was infected again…..so her heart was in the right place, (she didn’t think he could do it healthy) …
