Clearly this is what happened to Grebeshkov, but I don’t think it really happened to Malhotra last year. He had an option to take money and play in the NHL, but decided that playing for a contender was his top priority. The pinch did happen to other guys though (Biron and Moore jump to mind).
It must have felt great to get cash from a club that has a good chance at winning.
