Strudwick's Contract
The terms of Jason Strudwick's contract are now public. The contract is a one-way deal that will pay Strudwick $725,000 in 2010-11, a $25,000 raise on what he earned in 2009-10.

The raise he got is a smaller percentage than the raise in the cap, so in terms of his “percentage of league revenues” (which is how they actually get paid), he actually took a small pay cut. I understand the cut-throat sentiment, but the Oilers obviously want this player for reasons other than his hockey ability. Why risk insulting the man and having him walk if he’s a guy you really want to bring back?

Given the guy was signed on as a seventh D and he wound up achieving career highs in both GP and TOI/G, I don’t begrudge him a decent pay cheque. They’re not exactly breaking the bank. It’s pretty clear they like the type of example he set(s) and value his veteran leadership, even as we don’t have a statistic that quantifies that.
