The Oilers bought out the last year on Robert Nilsson's contract. I don't like the move because it seems foolish to spend just over $400,000 of cap space in 2011-12, a year the Oilers should be trying to seriously compete. That said, it's not my money and the move does save them about $1.67M in real dollars. Thus, the buy-out makes sense from a business perspective if the Oilers don't plan on spending to the cap this year. If they do spend to the cap in 2009-10, this is clearly a bad call.
