Steve Tambellini, you are a stupid, stupid man and I hope you get Nikolai Khabibulin to drive you home every day until we are rid of you.

Damn ,…i just made a fanshot…lol…slow by a minute…
Leopold was traded for a 2nd. I am sure we could have gotten more for this guy!!!

And even if we couldn’t have, just keep Grebeshkov! He’s young, not terribly expensive, and not bad! What the hell is wrong with holding onto him? It’s not like we have an unbelievably awful defense corps bereft of NHL experience that isn’t hurt all the fucking time! OH RIGHT WE DO.

Holy mackarel, we’ve got a lot of SHIT.

by Benjamin Massey on Mar 1, 2010 3:12 PM MST up reply actions

Man totally agree with you. Of all the players on the list. He deals grebs now!!
the guy had potential….
even if he had to be dealt…there was the entire fking off-season for it

by SumOil on Mar 1, 2010 3:19 PM MST up reply actions

Agreed, and you’d think if it was done now then it should only have been for full value… but perhaps they’ve already had talks with grebs and know he wants too much to resign. RFA is only so valuable when he has the KHL as an option. I’m not a fan of this move atm, but will reserve full judgment till after his resigning (or the remote possibility that more trades show there was a plan and he was not in it).

Can’t say I’m too thrilled with Tambellini either at this point. My biggest concern about the Oilers is they don’t have enough guys in the age 27-32 range. They keep trading guys just entering their prime for old guys (e.g. Greene/Stoll for Vis) or prospects/picks (e.g. Torres for Brule, now this). Are they ever going to develop a core of mature but not ancient players?

No, because they are stupid and we are stupid to keep cheering for these guys.

by Benjamin Massey on Mar 1, 2010 4:21 PM MST up reply actions

Except he ended up in Nashville, a team the Flames are actually competing against

by maimster on Mar 1, 2010 3:24 PM MST up reply actions

Meh. Grebshkov in, Hamhuis out doesn’t really change things for CGY.

They both commit roughly the same amount of turnovers…

As Fear the Fin pointed out on Twitter, this makes the Wallin for a 2nd look pretty pissy.

Aren’t you guys the ones that just gave Matt Stajan a 4 year, $18M contract?

That’s genius work from the FO there….

Honestly, Oilers fans are in no position to snicker at the work of any other NHL front office. Except maybe the Rangers.

Caps fan, for the record.

4 years, 14 million. I don’t mind the sniping, just get the numbers right ;-)

With the Stajan signing, from a cap hit perspective the deal is a wash between Dion’s $6.5 MM hit vs. Hagman’s $3 MM and Stajan’s $3.5. A top 3 (?) defender for two top 6 forwards. Certainly realigns what was looking like a lopsided payroll since the JayBo signing.

Of course the above doesn’t account for White. What is the scuttlebutt on him? Falmes resigning him? $$$?

I consider Mayers and Sjostrom very minor parts of the deal, maybe a Calgary follower feels differently?

Mayers and Sjostrom were makeweights for cap purposes, nothing more or less.

I’m ambivalent about Ian White. There were rumours he wanted 3.5 million per year to resign in Toronto, and if he asks for that in Calgary, he needs to be moved, or if he gets an offer sheet at that level the Flames should take the picks, IMO. He’s a decent enough player, but I can’t shake the feeling that he’s likely a guy that should be in the 4-6 slot in a good defence group, and they can’t pay him big money to play that role with the other contracts that are now on the books. Calgary’s had that sort of situation with Sarich the last two years, and it’s been a drag on the team. If I were running the show, I’d also be loathe to overpay White since the one place Calgary has organizational depth beyond the big club is on the blue.

We’re happy with Jekyll Sather, who keeps pulling amazing trades out of his ass.

It’s Hyde Sather we hate, who signs awful FA deals and then relies on Jekyll to save it.

I didn’t have much hope to begin with, but it has been completely extinguished now. How are these jokers still in charge?

To be fair; Kevin Lowe would’ve taken a 3rd.

uh

Not sure what to say.

Thanks, Steve?

Seems like Poile’s genius is reaffirmed, but I’ve never really paid attention to Grebeshkov.
