Dubnyk Down; Pitton Up; Opportunity Wasted

How many chances do you get to have two goalies named "Doobie" starting against one another?  Does Steve Tambellini want to stamp out joy?  Do the Oilers want to prove once and for all that they hate fun?  Devan Dubnyk must look terrible in practice.  The Oilers have sent him down to Springfield and called Pitton up to sit on the bench while Jeff Deslauriers plays his second game in two nights.  That's not to say that Dubnyk can't use the work or that he won't be welcomed with open arms in Springfield.  It's just... you would think in a back-to-back situation he would getting the start tonight to give our "number one" (Ha!) goalie a rest.  At this point, I'm hoping for a Bryan Pitton appearance tonight.

Falcons goaltending

IMO, part of the decision to return Dubnyk to the Falcons was the past three outings. Saturday night “#1” (in Dubie’s absence) goalie JP Levasseur gave up six in two periods. He was replaced with PTO Andrew Penner. Penner gave up the last two in the 8-2 thrashing. Sunday, Penner gave up all six in a 6-0 whitewashing and was promptly released from his PTO. Pittman was recalled to sit on the bench while Levasseur was back in the nets Wednesday night and gave up another eight spot. That’s right 22 goals against in the last three games.

It’s probably a temporary return for Dubie, until the Oilers find another piece in the goaltending puzzle.

Yeah, that makes sense. I was just surprised they didn’t want him to start for the Oilers last night. Even if he did, it wouldn’t have been Doobie v. Doobie anyway, so my level of disappointment has been ratcheted down.

They’re waiting for Hasek to get healthy.
