While at the Pats vs. Oil Kings game on Saturday I took the opportunity to drop into the Oilers store. One of them, anyway. Mostly I was just curious to see how overpriced the merchandise might be, but was surprised to see a few items offered on deep discount. First one to grab my eye was the "Souray flex cap" pictured above, marked down by 60%. Clearing out the merch before clearing out Souray? There's a certain amount of business logic in that.
So I explored a little to see what other personalized items might be similarly marked down. Found one other major one, pictured after the jump.
Hmmm, Andrew Cogliano, 2/3 off. I wonder if the people operating the Oilers store might have some inside information?
Nothing else jumped out at me on the individual level quite like that, but I noticed something on the team level. Both the first and second jerseys were unviersally marked down, from $129.99 to $79.99, while the third, "vintage" jersey was still at the full price. Made me wonder if we'll be seeing new home and away jerseys next year, or perhaps adopting the vintage unis on a full-time basis. Certainly I was left wondering if they were trying to clear out old stock before it becomes obsolete. Sometimes a "good deal" is less than it seems.
