Recalled: Shawn Belle & J-F Jacques
What comes as no surprise to most, Shawn Belle and J-F Jacques have been recalled to the Oilers for Wednesday's game against the Blackhawks as well as Friday's game against the Coyotes. This will be the first call-ups for the newly minted Oklahoma City Barons to the Edmonton Oilers.

Nice the Belle callup paves the way for Strudwick to be cut after Belle outperforms during Smid’s abscence.
In that he’s been a healthy scratch a few times already and has less history with the organization, I suspect Vandermeer is the one on the chopping block if Belle performs well.

That would probably have to balance with whether or not Katz is willing to toss another couple million into the A.
He’s paying the exact same amount of total money whether it’s Strudwick or Vandermeer who gets sent out, so if that’s an issue, Belle just isn’t going to stick.

Is someone now on the IR? If not, I count 24 players on the roster (14F, 8D, 2G).

Peckham – wrist
Smid – face
Only two listed on the injured list as of this moment.

Damn, and double damn.
I know Smid’s been over his head, but it’s not like we have extra D-men floating around. And he’s been one of the better guys we can dress.
I’ve been very pleasantly surprised with Peckham, so that hurts, too.
It will be interesting to see what Belle can do, but we’ve already seen JFJ.

It’s good to see Jacques up with the big club. It’s clear that a lack of toughness has been one of the main reason the Oil has struggled so far. Tambellini has taken a lot of flack, some of it deservedly so, but with these call ups he’s making a decisive move to improve this team.
I agree the Belle callup was an improvement but Jacques is only qualified to replace Stortini/MacIntyre so he does not add any new elements to the team. If JFJ plays in place of anybody else on the team it is a joke.

I wouldn’t trade Stortini for 23 JFJs, even if that would be funny to watch.

I may be the last guy standing on the deck of the Titanic, but I haven’t entirely given up on Jacques yet. Yes, he has looked horrible trying to give and receive passes, be in the right position, shoot the puck, or cover a man in the defensive zone… wait, what was I writing?
Oh yeah, he’s still big and can skate like the wind so there’s a chance that he’ll figure out how to be an effective fourth line cruncher. I can’t imagine what there is to lose by giving him one more kick at the can before sending him packing, anyway.
I’m big. That makes me half as qualified for the NHL as Jean-Francois Jacques.

I make guys laugh when I miss the garbage can by three feet with a tape ball. Does that count?

Bring skates to the next Oilers game you watch, they’ll probably let you dress for the third. And hey, only three feet? With that kind of athleticism you’ll probably wind up in the top six.
I like the idea of the 10,000th fan through the door playing third-line centre. Surely, there’s at least one beer-leaguer out there with an ounce of guile.

Are fourth line crunchers really the downfall of this team?
