Edmonton desperately needs a forward on the non-Gagner, non-Horcoff line. Dawes is cheap and effective and as Kent Wilson says, doomed by bad luck in Atlanta.

we should. Remember last season when Nick Boynton was on waivers and we did not claim him, and now he is playing top 4 minutes in Chicago in Campbell’s absence. Though I donot expect Dawes to be even half as impactful, he will definitely be a nice comeplement to third line or even the 13th forward.
Either than or bring up Reddox. Smac needs to go and also one of the goalies.

Nigel Dawes might be the fifth best player on this team today. Even if he’s not, he’s certainly not worse than every guy on the roster. Unfortunately, he’s a bit on the small side, so he probably won’t be getting claimed. If the Oilers were interested, I’m sure they would have signed him to a one-way deal in the summer.

I think Derek knows that too. Thats why he asks “should” we claim him and not “will” we claim him.

Definitely the Oil should pick him up. I wish the Flames never would have gotten rid of him. He’s a solid 3rd line guy with the shot to give a team 15-20 goals.

Robert Cleave mentioned it on Twitter today, but he played against Top 6 competition, had a 36.4% Zone Start & still had the 5th best Corsi of any forward on Atlanta.

On the Flames he as a possession positive player with some scoring added in and Darryl still bought him out of an 850k contract. Ugh.

I don’t get why this guy can’t stick around.

Maybe he’s just an asshole that no one likes?

In theory, there is little difference between practice and theory, but in practice there is!

He’s small and his counting stats results aren’t compelling. To be an undersized NHLer, you pretty much have to be exceptional.
