Oilers recall Chorney

The Oilers recalled Taylor Chorney this afternoon, presumably to fill Ladislav Smid's role.  Smid will be unable to go after being on the receiving end of yet another dirty hit from a Canuck, this time it was Mason Raymond.  The grim stats from Chorney after the jump.

Good luck kid

The really great news is that he’s certain to play with Strudwick. Of course, he played with Struds before … I can tell just by looking at those stats. :(

Bruce:

I remember him throwing hand grenades at Visnovsky in a couple of games as well. The COL game early where the Oilers scored a bunch of PP goals was one of them. By my rusty memory he was Vis’ regualr partner for that game and the one before.

Vic: You’re right, I remember that too. I would bet Chorney acquired most of his crappy stats paired with Strudwick, though. I remember watching some of their shifts through clenched fingers.

Meantime, the good news is that Grebeshkov almost surely gets promoted to play with Vis instead of Struds, and his play and numbers should skyrocket.

But that’s not the best thing for a dude in his contract year.

At a certain point you want some proof the dude is worth another contract. I don’t want this year to be all about proving we got 23 dogs. Grebs’ numbers and performance are far enough down that it’s hard to imagine it taking more than a qualifying offer to wrap him up for another year almost no matter what he does from here.

I don’t think Grebs is worth another $3 million contract at this point. I’d be looking to deal him, so the pump and dump makes sense. But Lowe seems to have an affinity for the things he’s traded for and I bet Grebs is back with a shiny new $3.5 million deal.

The difference between Gilbert and Grebs at this point is night and day. Gilbert is a reliable first pairing, albeit #2, defenseman, and Grebs is struggling to find his game.

I almost think the situation is reversed. I’m much more impressed with Grebeshkov this season than Gilbert.

I’ll keep a close eye on both of these dudes tonight.

Is there any other particular reasont han Chorny got the call other than the fact that Oilers love him so much. His numbers in the A arent really that much better either

Not sure this organization really thought this through.

The team lost 2 PK defenders, so they call up Chorney. Wouldn’t Motin have been a much more logical callup?

Pecking order be damned, fill the damn hole.

No. 8

Wouldn’t Motin have been a much more logical callup?

No, Arsene would’ve been.

A link on LT’s thread yeaterday noted:
“RPI head coach Seth Appert said Petry showed why he is one of the best defensemen in the country with his performance during the two-day tournament.
"I thought he was special," Appert said.
"He’s evolved into a dominant defenseman. He’s very good offensively, he moves the puck and he has great anticipation skills."
.
Also:
“Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that he can shoot the puck 100 mph, or play the physical game with his 6-foot-3 size.”

Petry has to be the Number 1 D-prospect, followed by a healthy Peckham & then Chorney

I mean if you were calling up to give a kid a chance.

And aside from that, has Arsene even been much better than Motin?

Everything I’ve read about Petry says he’s going to be a stud.

Chorney still doesn’t have a nickname, does he?

I suggest “The Corsi Donkey”.
