Are Robert Nilsson or Fernando Pisani Nashville-bound?
According to Jason Gregor of OilersNation, it's a very real possibility. From his game-day blog last night:
I got some confirmation that the Oilers and Predators are kicking each other tires. Nilsson would seem like an obvious choice, but I’ve heard whispers about Pouliot and Pisani as well. Nashville has lots of cap space if they want to acquire either Pisani or Nilsson.
My opinion of both of these players is high. Fernando Pisani, who is earning a little more than he really should be, is a great player on any team's third line and is capable of stepping up into a scoring role every once in a while. Robert Nilsson is a talented (I'm really resisting the urge to add "yet enigmatic") yet enigmatic (fine, I lose) forward who shows flashes of brilliance.
The smart money's on Nilsson - the Oilers have too many players with similar skill-sets, and have more on the way, while Nashville really needs to add a scoring forward to their top-six. Meanwhile, the Oilers have very few players like Pisani, and Nashville is blessed with that type of forward.
The sticking point? Robert Nilsson's salary.

If this team trades Pisani, I’m giving up and going to write for whatever the SBNation Columbus blog is.
If anything, this team should be acquiring Steve Reinprecht or Jamie Lundmark so we can run an entire line of ex-St. Albert Saints, not sending one away!

If they trade him for a “scorer” that can’t play both sides of this game – that really slopes the ice for the Oilers.

Any word on what might be coming Oilers way? Better be something good …

Nashville Roster
For the life of me, I can’t see anything on that roster that even makes sense.
Hamhuis, obviously, but I can’t see him moving unless someone like Cogliano is involved.
Legwand, sure, but again, something significant has to go back.
Smithsen? Ward?

Ender: aside from Gregor’s mention of Hamhuis (which only seemed half serious to me) who else has mentioned it?

Aside from Ender’s crazytalk, no.
The Hamhuis stuff would be sweet, but dealing Pisani weakens an already weak group.

I heartily apologize to Ender. It wasn’t crazytalk, it’s just the Oilers being the Oilers.

Not TooToo!
Not an NHLer
So the Cap is going down and the Oilers are looking to trade their only expiring contract?
For a defenseman they don’t have room for & Jordin F. TooToo?
Alright, I see Hamhuis is UFA too.
Fuck me, Jordin TooToo
In other scrappy forward news:
“Invited to training camp, LW Guillaume Lefebvre has signed a one year contract with the Boston Bruins. "
That’s my man, Lefty Lefebvre.
I was a little surprised that he wasn’t brought back. AHL QualComp said great things about Lefebvre.

Lefty Good, Stone Slow
The Oilers offered him a contract
I assume it was an AHL contract, or why wouldn’t he take it?
Hamhuis is a UFA next summer, and Nashville can’t afford to sign him next summer. Weber and Suter are the guys getting paid there. They are loaded with young defenseman ready to move up. They desparately need a forward right now.

Nor can Edmonton.

So does Edmonton.

The difference being that Edmonton needs checkers, while Nashville needs scorers. The guys Nashville might be interested in are probably the same guys Edmonton needs to move anyway.

But they need GOOD two-way guys. I guess Ward qualifies, but if you want those types…Maholtra at 700k. Nidermayer unsigned, Grier at 1.5 without giving up anything for a lower end player.

Actually, figure out a way to drop Staios as well, and extend Hamhuis…

Very strange trade indeed. Something more or completely different would have to be involved, because it doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Assuming all 4 players are involved, we get about 1.5M in cap space this year (which only really means anything if you have something to use it on), and we don’t add anything to our roster we don’t already have in spades. Plus, with a significant raise coming for Hamhuis, we’ll likely end up in a worse position cap-wise next year if we intend to keep him.
Though I have to admit, our defense would look pretty amazing if we could add Hamhuis to it.
Grebeshkov comes off the books, so Hamhuis could replace him. Still, that might eat into the Gagner/Cogliano paydays, unless Staios is also shipped out at some point.

I heard the Oilers are interested in Dan Hamhuis. The only way that happens, though, is if one of the big 4 get traded.
Assuming that Souray and Visnovsky are untouchable, and since Grebeshkov just signed a new contract, does that mean Gilbert is also being shopped?

Only if you assume Souray and Visnovsky are untouchable.
Let’s think here, though: in the window the Oilers are likely to compete in (let’s call it 3 years), where will Souray and Visnovsky be? It might make more sense to deal one or both.
On the other hand, Grebeshkov only signed a one-year deal, whereas Gilbert is locked up long-term.
Honestly, I think any of the four could be in play.

Grebs
Grebs makes the most sense. He’s the only one with variable long-term cost and is due for a rise. A big raise. If you can get Hamhuis extended as part of the trade, then Grebs for a forward makes sense.

If Grebs
Ok, we have Pisani + Nilsson + “Grebs”
for Hamhuis + Tootoo + _______??
We’re talking Legwand
[And they can keep Tootoo]

Or Arnott
I was thinking it was a separate deal.
