Dany Heatley Traded

As everyone likely know by now, Heatley's been dealt to the San Jose Sharks with a fifth round pick in exchange for Milan Michalek, Jonathan Cheechoo and a second round draft pick.

Over at OilersNation, Jason Gregor asks the same question I'd been thinking about: as an Oilers fan, would you deal Dustin Penner, Andrew Cogliano and Ladislav Smid for the package above?

Star-divide

I know for a fact that I wouldn't.

Bryan Murray took a substantially lesser package from the Sharks, even allowing for the fact that Michalek's the best player of the six.  It's no wonder he hesitated to make that trade.

The wonder is that he made it at all.

Ottawa might be interesting to watch this year:

Foligno-Michalek-Alfredsson
Cheechoo-Spezza-Kovalev
Ruutu-Fisher-Neil
Winchester-Kelly-Donovan

I will put Michalek with Spezza…..using his size and speed to let the other 2 skill players take care of the rest…..

Positions a little off...

But the idea of offensive depth is still there. I’m guessing:

Cheechoo-Spezza-Kovalev
Michalek-Fisher-Alfredsson
Foligno-Kelly-Shannon
Ruutu-Winchester-Neil
(Extra: Donovan)

It’s not fair to Donovan, but we signed Neil to that outrageous contract, for some reason. Might as well play him, I guess.
