The Dany Heatley Story

 

This is what I know some far!!!

One  is what I know so far from this Heatley Sage.....Dany Heatley ask Ottawa for a trade sometime in early June because he did like how new Head Coach Cory Clouston was using him in games.  The Rangers and the Senators were the deal, going all the way back to when Heatley did ask for the Trade. Bryan Murray was doing a really good job of getting the Rangers to put a good deal together. Now the Ranger needed another team so they could clear so cap space. There was word out there that they were going to put Wade Redden in the Minors. That was never a option for them. The Ranger were very excited about Redden this up coming season.

So Anyway with the June 30th deadline at midnight coming, the Ranger though they had a deal if they could move Scott Gomez. They accently at one time try make Gomez part of the deal, but Bryan Murray didn't want him. So Heatley is telling people that he is likely playing for The Rangers and is really looking forward to it. However some in the Heatley camp are concerned that Murray is put all his eggs into one basket and knowing that Sather is a bit unpredictable, were atarting to explore other options.

Edmonton , LA and San Jose were showing Interest in Dany Heatley. The Heatley camp were quietly trying to figure out the deals but the teams kept saying that they were being told he was going to New York and intil Bryan murray phone them back they were focusing on July 1.

So June 30th is going along and everyone is curious if the Rangers are going to make the deal. Still everyone is hearding that the Ranger are going to send Redden down to the minors and Heatley's Agents  are worry about what is going to happen with their other clients. By noon on June 30th, there look like there is a deal but the Rangers  need to get one more piece of the puzzle and they still need the cap space. At the same time Montreal i sall but give up on there dreams of getting Lacavalier, both Tampa bay and Montreal got cold feet at the draft while trying to make a deal. So Montreal needs a big time center and go and help the Rangers out by trading for Scott Gomez.

That put Heatley to the Rangers talk in the forefront and the Heatley camp stopped everything else it was doing that afternoon and goes to making sure that the deal is in place. The Ranger received the piece they needed for Ottawa as well in a young defenceman(Don't know which one). The Ranger then turn to Murray who again wants a Center as part of the deal, he as always wanted Rozsival as part of the deal. But the Rangers had that as a deal breaker.

The negotiations started to get ugly when Dubinsky is thrown back into the mix. Marray goes and starts talking with some other teams and gets interested by a trade talk with Edmonton. Heatley doesn't say no immediately to the possibility  of going to Edmonton, most likely because he is OK when using Edmonton to get leverage. However the Oilers and Senator work out a deal quickly. Not the deal that would eventually be struck. A different is put together containing one of the Oilers bigger D-man. Face with question of will he go, Heatley says no.

The Ranger basicly find out at that point that there is nothing else to do and tell Bryan Murray that he is going to have to pay the money at midnight. Murray stands pat, Heatley frustrated and someone in the Heatley camp still belives that Edmonton is a opition. Heatley gets mad at Murray for not exploring other opitions all along and while he won't dismiss Edmonton completely, he wants Murray to talk to other teams that are on his list. Murray does talk to a few but no one wants to make such a move on the eve of July 1.

Edmonton however is really going for it. they put together a deal...alittle differently. The deal is leaked by Ottawa and the names get out. The reasoning most likely was to show Sather just how good of a deal he could indeed get. It backfires however, as Sather see this leak as dirty poker and begins talking to Gaborik.

Meanwhile word gets out, through someone in the Heatley camp, that he will agree to go to Edmonton. Word is that there is one more deal that needs to made first....I am not sure if it was Edmonton or Ottawa that need to make the deal!!!! The Oilers wanted to meet with Heatley face to face and Heatley agree. The sides meet and if comes out that Heatley feels the signing bonus should not have to be paid by the Oilers, it was a deal the Senators made. He doesn't close the door completely, only saying he needs more time. Heatley is furious that Murray didn't talk to more team but is impressed by his meeting with the Oilers.

Midnight comes and word comes down fromt he NHL that as long as the deal is done but Midnight on July 1, the money can be paid by Edmonton. July 1 comes and nothing happens. With Sather refusing to talk to Murray, the Heatley side still hopes that something can get done. Finally within a matter of minutes Gaborik is signed by the Rangers and it is leaked that Heatley is OK with going to Edmonton. Once again Heatley corrects everyone saying he needs more time.

And so here we sit wondering if Heatley is going to Edmonton, San Jose or the Moon!!!!
