For the second time this in less than a year, the Chicago Blackhawks have fired a man under whom the team has taken strides forward, in favour of the obvious replacement waiting in the wings. Like Denis Savard, Dale Tallon has been replaced by the expected person - Stan Bowman, and while the embarrassing RFA incident may have helped hasten his decline, he was almost certainly on the way out already. It seems odd to say this of a G.M. whose team just went to the conference finals, but I'm not convinced this was a bad move. We witnessed an embarrassing Khabibulin/Huet fiasco play out last season, we've heard things from players like Martin Havlat (who promises to give the full story soon) and we've seen things like the RFA fiasco and Tallon's apparent indifference (although he did get all the players signed).
