I could see them not moving anyone out, just signing three forwards at 1.0 to 1.1 million.

Right now they have almost 4 million left in cap space.

$4.5M to go and only five NHL defencemen and ten NHL forwards under contract. Signing Pardy (D) and Boyd (F) and calling up Backlund and three benchwarmers more than eats that up.

I actually could see them trying that.

After doing the math…only if they can get Pardy and Boyd under $750K. Which…maybe? Still, doesn’t give the Flames any room at all for injury replacements. Could we see Backlund in the minors for a couple of months, a la Bobby Ryan, if Sutter doesn’t make a salary dump between now and the first of October?

Correction: if they bring up Backlund, Pelech or Negrin, Greentree, and Sutter, it’s more like $600K apiece for Pardy and Boyd, to give you 23.

21

They’ll go with 21 and hope if they don’t move a salary.

That’s the only alternative, really.
