Minnesota Wild Name Todd Richards Head Coach
Richards comes to Minnesota from San Jose, where he spent last season as an assistant coach. Before that, he was the head coach of Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre. Oilers fans might remember him from his time there; in that capacity he coached prospects such as Tom Gilbert, Kyle Brodziak, Marc Pouliot, Robert Nilsson, J-F Jacques and Rob Schremp.
This is a solid choice, although it's probably a crime to name any head coach whose first name isn't "Dave" and whose last name isn't "Tippett".
As far as the AHL up-and-comers go, the only guy who I can see as being in the same range as Richards is Scott Arniel.

Whoever gets Dave Tippett will hit the coaching jackpot this summer. Even better if they can name Arniel assistant coach.

I think Dave Tippett – while being a fine coach – at this point is quite overrated. He helped the Stars get past a 1st round one time.
Richards is a solid hire for the Wild
A agree that he is a great “teacher” but I think that is why he was a successfull assistant. I believe the assistants need to be the teachers, not the head coach. I think he is a solid coach but I think it will take him a while to find his feet and make a difference.
This signing shows the Wild are moving in a new direction of offence and skating instead of their smoothering boring defence. Does this make Gaborik now consider staying there if they come up with a good offer or is it too late for that? I can see the Wild coming up with the biggest offer because the franchise really needs to keep him if they can.
I bet that Tippet ends up in NJ, that is a perfect fit for him. It will be a travisty if Tippet isn’t behind the bench somewhere this year as he would be an upgrade for more than half the teams out there.

From what I’ve read and heard sounds like Tip may be taking a year or at least half a season off before taking on a new job… So don’t be too shocked if he;s not behind the bench at the start of the season.
