MacTavish to Coach Spengler Team
Craig MacTavish will coach Team Canada in the 2009 Spengler Cup Tournament. His team includes former NHL players Alexander Daigle, Boyd Devereaux, Brendan Bell, Ric Jackman, and NHL goaltending prospect David LeNeveu. Check out the Spengler Cup page here.

I have it on excellent authority that MacTavish only took the job because he assumed Toby Petersen was playing in Europe by now.

Love the Spengler Cup. Daytime hockey for the holidays … wish I could attend one in person some year. A hockey festival.
There’s been some pretty high-powered coaches behind Canada’s bench over the years. Pat Quinn for one.
This is a nice gig for MacT, and an experience he is certain to enjoy. It gives him a “coaching holiday” during his hiatus, raises his profile a little tiny bit, and likely opens the door to a further opportunity at the World Championships. Assuming he’s not coaching the Rangers by then.
