Chorney and O'Marra Demoted
The Oilers have sent both Taylor Chorney and Ryan O'Marra back to Springfield of the American Hockey League. This means that the Oilers are now carrying only twelve healthy forwards and seven healthy defenders on the roster. The demotion probably stings more for Chorney who had been receiving positive reviews for his work (though it really wasn't all that impressive by the numbers) prior to injuring his ankle. However, the Oilers decided to keep Dean Arsene on the roster and send Chorney back to Springfield to get into some games. I had previously thought that Arsene must have been on an emergency recall since he would have needed to clear re-entry waivers in order to serve as a regular call-up. Since the emergency situation has been over for several days it seems that Arsene must have instead cleared re-entry waivers at some point this season. Either that or the Oilers have him up with the big club using a rule I'm not familiar with.

It’s best for Chorney to go back. No matter the reviews – the numbers were just plain bad.

Depending on Arsene’s AHL salary, he might not have to clear re-entry waivers ever.
Jamie Lundmark, both this season and last, was free to be moved up and down, because his AHL salary was below a certain number ($80k?). He just had to clear waivers (the regular kind) once at the beginning of the season.
I believe that Arsene’s salary is extremely large by AHL standards.

That’s interesting. I’ll need to look into the rule. Arsene’s salary is $170,000 so he may not qualify but I’d still like to check it out.
