Edmonton Oilers Statistical Highs & Lows
We're one-third of the way through the season, so I thought I'd take a look at some statistical categories to see if there is anything that can tell the story of the Edmonton Oilers thus far. There's a story alright - Gulliver's Travels.
Things don't look much better as Shawn Horcoff continues to nurse a bad shoulder and Sam Gagner now has a mysterious lump in his neck. 70 points and Cam Fowler seem to await.
To quote the immortal R.L. Burnside in Goin Down South, "It's bad, you know."

I see what you did there.

He’s the only qualifying Oiler that has a negative Difference.
He’s actually 285th out of 286 qualifying players in the NHL thus far in 2009.

Soon, his stats will have to be measured in scientific notation.

Can you say “hundredth percentile”?

He’s on a lovely pace to take 27 penalties and draw 3

What were the qualifications? I mean, I get that Moreau’s been bad at this sort of thing for a while, but it blows my mind he’d be the only one on the damned team that took more than he drew.

It was a minimum of 15 games played when I ran the query prior to the Vancouver game. It may have changed in the last few days, I’m not sure.
The Vancouver game may have pulled Staios in as well because it was his 15th game.

Doogie: There are others that have taken more than they draw — defemcemen mostly — but 9-1 is pretty extreme. Here’s the full list.

Three total qualifiers – Grebs, Staios (who just played game 15) and Moreau.

Alright, that’s fair enough. I just saw that and thought, “I wonder if Derek’s trying to make a point here?”

I actually missed Grebs in the first go ‘round and Staios hadn’t yet qualified, so I didn’t update the number before the post.
I’m going to leave things the way they are. I appreciate the meaning behind it :)

It’s correct. I looked and the minimum qualifying games right now is 20. Both Grebs and Staios are ineligible. Moreau is the only qualifier :)
