Oilers recall Bryan Pitton from Stockton
"General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have recalled goaltender Bryan Pitton from Springfield of the American Hockey League. They have also reassigned Devan Dubnyk to Springfield.
Pitton has appeared in 13 games this year with the Stockton Thunder of the East Coast Hockey League. He has a 4-7-1 record with a 3.28 GAA and .907 SV%. The 21-year-old netminder was called up to Springfield when the Oilers recalled Dubnyk last month."
When I saw the headline I thought the worst, that JDD's knock from last night was a problem. Now I assume the opposite, that there's no way they would risk Bryan Pitton in an actual freaking game, so presumably they want to get Dubnyk some work and have a practice goalie for the big club. Indeed, Dubnyk may well be back by Tuesday.
Exciting times for Bryan Pitton. I have to admit I never saw this day coming, ever.

The Oilers literally recalled the least useful goaltender they could find so that Dubnyk could get some work and somebody could sit on the bench in Edmonton.
How bad does Jeff Deslauriers’s save percentage have to be on Tuesday for Pitton to get on the ice? I think it would actually have to be negative.

I was all ready to freak out, but this makes sense. Get Dubnyk a game here or there in the AHL to keep him fresh and keep the Falcons from completely spiralling out of control, without using him the NHL if at all possible. Of course, I’m not convinced Dubnyk’s not good enough to play a game here or there as the backup, but I’m not in charge.
