Oilers Struggles

Oilers struggling may see them miss the playoffs again if further movements are not initiated.

Star-divide

I have noticed that the Oilers are really struggling without Souray in the lineup, more than anyone else that is out. However, they are missing some bangers and crashers that are needed in the highest degree. IN order to turn this team around I do believe player personnel has to be changed in order to get new vision as this one is not working. Without any question size is really absent on this team.  This can cause a lot of havoc when they play teams who are physical against us.

Big Steve MacI must be on his way out. Not playing him, to me, is not doing anything but leaving the rest of the team vulnerable for others to take their liberties with them like they did before they got him here. If they are not going to play him I would like them to bring up Kip Brennan from Springfield to play because he is a heavyweight, and a pretty good skater to go with it.

Any comments on these thoughts?

Kip Brennan has an AHL-only deal. He’d need to be signed to an NHL contract, and (IIRC) after that would need to clear waivers on the way up.

But it wouldn’t matter anyway. Pat Quinn isn’t playing a one-dimensional goon, and despite a strong camp Brennan’s still too close to that.

A posse ad esse.

Yeah, I agree with Jonathan here. Quinn’s not going to play Brennan any more than he’s played MacIntyre. Your larger point that we could use more size is a good one though. There are veteran hands who are somewhat capable NHL players they could bring here to fill the role, at least until some of the Oilers younger big men are well. A guy like Josh Green for example could be a good fit. He’d have that extra “desperation :)” guys on the outside of the show for a while have when they get a shot to get back in.

I do agree that Quinn wants more versatility in the players, and ones who do want to play the game also. Being role players like Big MacI has no real value to the team other than being on the bench and going out when need to.
They can still bring up Brennan for some games though eventhough he only has an AHL contract. I think with him he could have more to offer than Steve. Brennan skates pretty good, and yes he is a tough guy, but I do think he could be controlled more than Steve was as he has more to offer. He had a good training camp this year and I thought Quinn was going to keep him for a while then.

They could bring him up but it would require them offering him on waivers and adding him to the 50-man contract list and while that’s not impossible, there are plenty of physical players out there that are better than Brennan. Adam Mair, for example, was just put on waivers (and went unclaimed).
