The Dean of Mean Keith Jar... Dean Arsene Recalled

The Edmonton Oilers have told Theo Peckham that he sucked big time when he was in Edmonton. If they didn't tell him in his exit interview, they did so today when defender Dean Arsene was brought to the big team on emergency recall from the Springfield Falcons. Arsene is not really a prospect. He's 29 years old and has yet to play an NHL game. He's a veteran defender with a focus on defence (if you want to know what to expect, think Jason Strudwick without the size or NHL experience). Arsene signed with the Oilers in the off-season because they were willing to give him an NHL/AHL deal and he thought he'd have a chance at a call-up. During camp he said: "they don't worry about age or where a player was drafted. They said, 'If you're the best and we somebody, you're going to get the chance." Now, at the time I thought that the Oilers were either lying to him or that he was wearing rose-coloured glasses when they said something that may have sounded kind of like that. Mostly, I thought they were lying to him. But hey, it looks like I'm wrong and I couldn't be happier for the guy. Dean Arsene, at 29 years old, may have a chance to play his first career NHL game and I for one think that's pretty awesome.

Dear Sheldon Souray,

If you have a heart, let your concussion keep you out of just one more game. Also, if Taylor Chorney says he's ready to go, please kick him in the ankle. Thanks.

Scott.
