Struggling?
Vicki Hall of the Calgary Herald:
Craig Conroy decided to do a kid a favour Saturday on Hockey Night in Canada.
The random act of kindness came in the second period when Conroy lined up for a faceoff at centre ice against a struggling Sam Gagner, of the Edmonton Oilers.
I think that one game on the fourth line has to be a new record for use of the term "struggling".

Wow, Conroy always has something to say.

"Sometimes you need to do that for the guys on the other team," Conroy said. "Hopefully, they’ll help you out if they ever get the chance."
What an incredibly odd thing to say. Maybe Craig Conroy is an old buddy of Dave Gagner’s and has known Sam since he was five? So weird.

Maybe Conroy is just an idiot and needed an explanation as to why he let a lightweight 19 year old kid land multiple punches on him.

All Gagner had to do was try to hit Conroy in the mouth. He could hardly miss. If only he coulda lived up to his nickname, though (Gags).

I don’t know about that. Who would you take in a fight:
6’2’’ 190, age 38 or 5’11’ 190, age 20
It’s not as though Conroy is tons bigger or has much more fighting experience. I’d be awfully tempted to take the younger guy. That aside, Conroy’s not even making excuses for getting punched, he’s making excuses for dropping the gloves at all. I guess it’s possible he’s just a big mouth but it still seems odd to me.

Old man guile and strength is tough to deal with. Unless you’re an idiot like Conroy.

More interestingly, 2 games, zero chances against…

Now that’s a nice combination.

All of which should be attributed to Conroy. Gagner will owe him a lot for turning his season around.
Oh and Phaneuf is the best D-man in the world. I grow as a person every time I hear the insights from Conroy.

Speaking of Ugly, labmate of mine in exercise physiology mentioned the other day that she grew up with Phaneuf in Edmonton. Apparently, he was a real bully back then.
I know, I’m surprised, too.
