Avalanche at Oilers Preview: Enemy Intelligence

Believing the hype:  maybe the Avs are for real.

Darcy Tucker has a concussion (not concussion-like symptoms) and is out.  Chris Dumo recalled.

Matt Hendricks is on the shelf.

Rookie Ryan O'Reilly is off to a fast start.

The Avs are getting bombarded almost as badly as the Oilers, but Anderson has stood on his head thus far.  If the  bombardment continues, this team can't sustain it's winning ways.

Speaking of sustain, read the comments at Mirtle's place.  At least a few Avs fans think Craig Anderson is Hasek.

A child shall lead them:  T.J. Galiardi leads the Avs penalty killers.

Chris Stewart catches fire after coming back to the show.

The Avs have only been a bit lucky, apparently.

28th in shots against and 2nd in goals allowed is not a pace that any goalie can maintain. Even one as all world as Anderson.

I will go with the law of averages. It is about fucking time avs lose. Anderson has been on a godly SV% and that will change too soon. In the end percentages catch upto you. Either the defense needs to improve or soon Avs will go in a funk. We saw the Maple leafs win yesterday. I think we will see the avs lose tonight.

I will echo that sentiment. If the Leafs can win the Avs can lose. To the Oilers no less. They better come out hard after that embarrassing game in Vancouver.

I’m rooting a little bit for Galiardi, the ex-Hitman (whom I also have in my keeper pool right now off of waivers). The rest of the team, of course, can fuck right off.

They’ve got goaltending now — not Hasek-level goaltending, but good enough — so I think they’re a perfectly reasonable bet to be on the rather substantial bubble when all’s said and done. Which side will they land on? Well, banking 18 points in your first 11 games goes a long way to keeping you on the positive side of the ledger, especially when you consider the likely gap between 6th and 12th.

SNN Sports - A theoretical Oilers blog (i.e. theoretically, I write stuff there). Link now 100% less broken.
