There's Something Happening Here

What it is ain't exactly clear. Buffalo Springfield wasn't talking about the San Jose Sharks in that song, but an e-mail sent to season ticket holders is a bit curious. It's a notice for a "State of the Sharks" summit being held next week, free for all season ticket holders. The image embedded in the e-mail:

The franchise has lined up the President, General Manager, Head Coach, Joe Thornton, Dan Boyle and Joe Pavelski to address the state of the team and take questions from fans. Glaringly absent from the summit? Captain Patrick Marleau.

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

I second. Make it so.

I would only do this if we are going to add another big defenseman via free agency or trades. I don't like having all soft puck movers in the top four, or losing him on the PP:

Visnovsky-Grebs
New Vet - Gilbert
Smid- Staios
Peckham

I don't like that at all: unless new vet is Bowmester or Zanon! If we move Souray it will be difficult to move Staios, since they are the only Dmen with playoff experience.

BCB - big or "tough"? Zanon certainly isn't big.

Coach: Zanon is tough but not big, and Bow is big but not tough. We have a player that is both in Souray. We need a big tough body to be able to play in the top four to handle the big tough forwards of the league. I rather see Vis, Gilbert, or Grebs headed out of town then Souray.
I rather see the D corps look like this:

Souray - Bouwmeester
Vis - Grebs
Smid - Cheap Vet
Peckham

so we would be moving Staios and Gilbert. That might be too expensive I would think (vis 5.6, Souray 5.4, Grebs 3, Smid 1.6, Peckham 0.6, New vet 1, and Bowneester 6.5/on a llooonnnggg term deal = 20.7 Million next season).

But we could get something in return for both Staios and Gilbert.

It wouldn't be too expensive if Gilbert, Staios and Moreau were all to leave town. They'd net a million on the cap in that case.
