Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Crowded Crease

The Oilers goaltending situation just got a little fuzzier. The Sarnia Observer is reporting that the Oilers have signed tryout goaltender Andrew Perugini to a contract. Dave MacQueen, Sarnia’s head coach, had some kind words for the departing goaltender:

"It's great for Andrew. He's a quality kid who got overlooked in a couple of NHL drafts. We've always been of the opinion that he was a top-end goalie in this league and never could figure out why he wasn't drafted." Read more...

I think that's a pretty decent signing. I liked what I saw of Perugini last week in the Bears game where in my view he looked more polished and professional than Pitton. At this point the Oilers should forget about draft pedigree and solidify their organizational depth at a troublesome position by whatever means.

Absolutely. Especially if it isn't an NHL Entry Level signing, there's no reason not to.

Bryan Pitton is a worse goalie than I am. I've said it before and I'm saying it again.

I'm happy to see Perugini come in, though. While it's a bit much to expect him to have an NHL career at this stage, goaltending is the biggest crap shoot at draft time of all the positions, and Perugini would hardly be the first guy to slip through the cracks. And in the OHL he was the real deal.

If you compare Perugini's 17-19 numbers to Dubnyk, Deslauriers and Pitton, the compare pretty well, with Perugini having the best numbers as an 18 and 19 year old. Dubnyk looked best and Perugini worst in the draft year.

Deslaurier Dubnyk Pitton Perugini
17 .900 .917 .904 .892
18 .888 .912 .879 .917
19 .916 .912 .911 .917

Let's hope we sign him.
