Oilers Sign Garet Hunt to AHL Contract

This is a photo of Garet Hunt from last year, where he attended the Vancouver Canucks' rookie camp. News came down today that Hunt has signed a contract with the Springfield Falcons and will attend the Oilers prospect camp in June.Hunt has just completed his fourth season with the Vancouver Giants, where in 62 games he set career highs in goals (7), points (18), +/- (9) and PIM (239). He's described in the linked article above as scrappy, a pest and a sparkplug. Given that he's 5'8", 190lbs, one gets the impression of a Cooke-style agitator, but he also led the WHL with 27 fighting majors.
The statistics on these type of players never tell the whole story, but both Springfield and Stockton were desperately short of players this season, and I dare say that this signing is more intended to address that than anything at the NHL level.
